Data Entry Specialist
Job Description
Get paid to share your knowledge of piano pedagogy and grow our database of pedagogical repertoire. Data Entry Specialists (DES) help our users discover new, interesting, and relevant compositions by analyzing piano music and accurately labeling metadata about each piece so that the pieces show up correctly in our search engine.
Overview
- 1099 Contractor position
- Fully remote, asynchronous, and flexible hours
- Payouts per piece submitted (equivalent to $15-$20 per hour, depending on how quickly you work)
- Minimum 20 submissions per month
- No upper limit (work as much as you'd like, there is always more work!)
- Payout to your bank account on the first of each month
Tasks
The role of DES consists of analyzing piano music and doing basic online research in order to input the following data points for each piece submitted:
- key signature
- time signature
- number of measures
- instrumentation
- era
- published/composed date
- publisher
- composer
- collection
- mood(s)
- elements (pedagogical concepts)
- theme(s)
- style(s)
- holiday
- student age
- student type
- basic teaching tips
- identify teacher duets
- identify lyrics
- find quality YouTube recordings
NOTE: You will also be required to go through occasional paid training sessions to ensure your accuracy and compliance with all data entry standards and leave feedback on the data in order to help us build better systems and improve the quality of data
Requirements
- You must be either: a US Citizen or legally allowed to work within the United States (proof required for direct deposit)
- You must be proficient in English
- You must know and understand American musical terminology
- You must be at minimum currently enrolled in an undergraduate music degree program with piano as your primary instrument
- You must have successfully completed at least one collegiate-level piano pedagogy class
- You must have at least six months of private piano teaching experience, ideally to pre-college-age students
- You must own or have consistent access to a laptop or desktop computer with internet access
- You must have proficiency with Google Sheets, Google Drive, YouTube, Gmail, Discord, and be able to navigate PianoMusicDatabase.com
- You must show a clear interest in the field of piano pedagogy and pedagogical piano repertoire
- You must have a willingness to be taught how to do the job successfully
- You must be willing to regularly communicate via email or Discord with PMD staff in order to complete certain tasks
- You must submit a minimum of 20 pieces per month, to remain active as a DES
Employment Specifics
- This is an ongoing private contractor position. This means that you will not be considered an employee of Piano Music Database LLC. You will instead be considered self-employed and contracted to Piano Music Database LLC for as long as the contract remains active.
- As a private contractor, you will: determine your own schedule (you choose when, where, and how often you want to work, as long as you meet the monthly minimum), access tasks related to the job on your own equipment, and be paid for each completed job, task, meeting, and training session.
- You will not have access to any kind of insurance, health benefits, retirement funds, paid time off, vacation, or sick days.
- You are responsible for paying any federal or state taxes owed
- If you make above the yearly threshold, you will be given a 1099 form to report your earnings to the IRS
Pay
- Each completed and approved data entry submission pays $2.50, this is your base pay
- You can submit as many pieces as you want to in any given pay period but you must complete a minimum of 20 submissions per month to remain active
- Most submissions can be completed in less than 10 minutes (more complicated and/or longer pieces do not pay more than the base pay, unless otherwise stated)
- Depending on how many submissions you are able to complete in a given pay period, your effective hourly pay rate should be anywhere between $15 / hour and $20 / hour
- For other tasks related to training like: attending training meetings, watching training videos, or participating in training sessions or tasks, you will be paid at a rate of $15 / hour
- You will know ahead of time how much each task or submission pays
- You will be expected to sometimes communicate with PMD staff to complete certain tasks, these communications are part of the data entry process and are not paid extra
- Payouts are monthly and made on the first business day of the next month, through direct deposit into your bank account
- You must be able to receive payments via direct deposit into a checking or savings account through a registered US bank
